Philip Morris USA Announces Re-Commissioning of its York Manufacturing Facility
Facility will help support manufacturing of new products
RICHMOND, VA (December 13, 2006) - Philip Morris USA (PM USA) today announced that it is re-commissioning its York Manufacturing Facility, located in York County, VA to support the company's adjacency growth strategy.

PM USA plans to invest approximately $100 million in the facility and machinery and will initially employ more than 75 people, with more employees added in the future.

"We have owned the York facility for nearly three decades, though it has been closed since 2004." said John R. Nelson, president, operations and technology, Philip Morris USA.  "Reopening the facility to support our adjacency strategy makes good business sense."

"We considered several locations, however working with state and local officials, including the Governor, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, York County Board of Supervisors, and York County Administration, including the Economic Development Department, made it clear that our York facility could play an important part in our company's future," said Nelson.

In 2004, Philip Morris USA moved the manufacturing operations from the York Manufacturing Facility to the Richmond Manufacturing Center to help streamline business operations. The site has been dormant since closure.

This investment further exemplifies PM USA's commitment to the economic development of Virginia.  Since relocating the corporate headquarters to Richmond from New York in 2003, the company has also committed to building a $350 million Center for Research and Technology in downtown Richmond, which is on track to open in 2007.
